NIBONG TEBAL, Malaysia, 3 October 2026 — A working visit by Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Communications, YB Teo Nie Ching, together with representatives from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), highlighted the successful delivery and positive impact of the Wi-Fi upgrade at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).
As a key contributor to the university’s network upgrade, Ruijie Enterprise welcomed the acknowledgement of the project’s achievements during the visit to USM’s Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Engineering Campus. The occasion marked a meaningful milestone in the company’s continued support for better connectivity across Malaysian higher education institutions.
During the visit, the Deputy Minister highlighted the completion of 822 additional access points under Phase 3 on 18 September 2026, five days ahead of the original schedule. These comprised 740 access points at the Engineering Campus and 41 each at USM’s Bertam and Bukit Jambul locations.
The expansion complemented the 1,103 access points installed under Phase 2 in July 2025, bringing USM’s reported total to 1,925 operational access points as of 30 September 2026.
The Deputy Minister also welcomed encouraging feedback from students on the improved internet coverage and connectivity following the upgrade. For Ruijie, this acknowledgement reinforces the significance of the work, delivering connectivity improvements that students can experience in their everyday learning and campus life.
Ruijie is honoured to contribute to this meaningful project, helping USM strengthen the digital foundations that support its students, educators and wider university community.
The upgrade addresses growing connectivity needs across lecture halls, laboratories, libraries, student centres and residential colleges. More reliable Wi-Fi helps students access learning materials, complete assignments and collaborate online, while supporting educators’ increasing use of digital teaching resources.
The USM upgrade forms part of the MCMC-supported Universal Service Provision (USP) initiative. Further expansion at the university’s Main Campus remains underway, with 4,150 additional access points targeted for completion by 30 October 2026.
USM is one of several Malaysian universities supported by Ruijie through its involvement in university Wi-Fi upgrades since 2025. Its contribution forms part of a wider collaborative effort involving multiple technology providers and participating institutions.
Among Ruijie’s earlier achievements was the network transformation at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), which achieved 100% Wi-Fi coverage across a dispersed campus spanning more than 1,000 acres in just 50 days. The deployment demonstrated the company’s ability to support complex campus requirements within a demanding implementation timeline.
Building on that experience, Ruijie has continued supporting upgrades at other universities in 2026, including USM. These projects reflect an ongoing commitment to helping higher education institutions improve connectivity in ways that serve their individual campus needs.
Ruijie’s work in Malaysia builds on its established track record in China’s education sector. As the company expands internationally, successful university deployments demonstrate how that experience can support institutions across different countries and learning environments.
Ruijie is proud to contribute to this progress and looks forward to growing alongside universities in Malaysia and globally. Through continued collaboration and support for their evolving digital needs, the company remains committed to helping institutions build connected campuses that enable learning, research and innovation.
