Yogyakarta, Indonesia | May 9, 2026 — In the evolving landscape of digital education, progress is driven by the strength of the community. At the heart of this transformation is UNY-IX (Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta Internet Exchange), whose mission is to serve as a focal point for network capacity—empowering entities to "peer" with one another to improve performance, increase resiliency, and reduce operational costs.

To celebrate this spirit of collaboration, UNY-IX, Mitra Karya Teknologi, and Ruijie Networks co-hosted "Run with Ruijie." This unique initiative combined a 5km morning run with a strategic technology forum, bringing together IT leaders from across the region's prominent academic institutions in Yogyakarta.

Building a Lean and Agile Smart Campus

The event served as a physical metaphor for the UNY-IX philosophy: achieving peak performance by reducing unnecessary complexity. Ruijie is honored to contribute to this vision by sharing insights on building a "marathon-ready" infrastructure through two strategic pillars:

  • Simplified Architecture: Just as peering streamlines data paths, Simplified Optical Ethernet (SOE) redefines the campus backbone by removing redundant layers. Delivering fiber directly to the room reduces latency and physical footprints, creating a lean environment optimized for AI and Wi-Fi 7.
  • Operational Efficiency: To maintain peak network health, IT teams leverage a "single pane of glass" approach. Utilizing UNC to manage multi-vendor environments simplifies daily O&M, while SMP+ secures the network at the most critical outer layer. This streamlined management allows staff to prioritize innovation over routine maintenance.

The synergy between the morning's physical run and the technological roadmap resulted in seven new universities exploring further collaboration on optical and wireless advancements.
