PEKANBARU, INDONESIA, August 28, 2026 — Universitas Riau (UNRI), in collaboration with Ruijie Networks EBG, hosted university executives and IT decision-makers from over a dozen leading Indonesian higher education institutions at the UNRI Integrated Classroom Building for the Ruijie Education Tour 2026: The Digital Backbone of Societal Impact — How Optical Innovation Powers UNRI’s Broader Mission.
The benchmarking event provided academic leaders with an operational blueprint on how simplified optical network architecture elevates academic quality, streamlines multi-campus administration, and advances green sustainability goals.
Opening the event on behalf of UNRI Rector Prof. Dr. Sri Indarti, S.E., M.Si., Dr. Ir. Sofyan Husein Siregar, M.Phil., Vice Rector for Planning, Collaboration, and Information Systems, underscored that digital transformation extends beyond hardware deployment.
“Digital transformation is not merely about bringing in technology, but how that technology creates tangible benefits for education, administrative services, research, and the entire academic community,” said Sofyan. “Fast networks and advanced devices must ultimately result in something greater—making educational services better, learning higher in quality, research faster in development, and innovation genuinely beneficial to society.”
Sofyan emphasized that effective digital transformation requires aligning robust network foundations with human resource readiness and supportive governance, creating an integrated digital ecosystem capable of adapting to modern academic demands.
During the summit, UNRI leadership and Dr. Ibnu Daqiqil Id, Head of UPA TIK, shared how re-architecting the campus digital foundation translates into direct operational benefits for students, faculty, and administrative teams:
Highlighting the importance of industry-academic collaboration, UNRI leadership noted that academic institutions provide real-world operational context and talent, while industry partners bring technical innovation and field experience.
To provide visiting university leaders with an authentic operational view, the event included a live, site-based inspection of UNRI’s data center facilities and passive optical distribution nodes. Visiting IT teams observed how simplified network design minimizes active failure points across a massive campus footprint—reducing daily maintenance tasks, accelerating troubleshooting, and enabling lean IT teams to focus on strategic academic technologies.
The benchmarking tour demonstrated that a reliable digital backbone empowers universities to expand their educational mission far beyond the perimeter of the campus, supporting high-impact community outreach programs, remote research initiatives, and regional development campaigns across Indonesia.
